I am not normally into having a meal with beef in it. I decided I was going to push the boat out and give it a try. It consists of stir-fried beef with shredded water vegetables tomato, celery, tree nuts, sesame seeds, coconut milk and fresh ginger to make a stew which is served with steamed rice.
I have to say it was a pleasant surprise to taste a rich, spicy yet creamy dish. It's explosive flavour gets your taste buds going.
It is called “rendang daging” in the local language and it’s arguably the most famous beef recipe in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. The best rendang you can make one needs to have that secret ingredient and it is "kerisik"or in other words toasted coconut.
